West End United started their 2019 season visiting Deportivo Real 45. The 3-week break between seasons became very apparent quickly as Deportivo took a 2 – 0 lead in the first 20 minutes of play. West End finally shook off their “rustiness” toward the end of the first half and got on the board with a nice “chip-in” header from Niagell. Unfortunately, shortly after, Deportivo was awarded a very questionable penalty kick when the referee apparently spotted Huu using his left hand to control the ball. This gave back Deportivo their 2-goal lead going into the second half. West End did produce a lot of chances, but could not find the finish. It seems every shot on goal was directed right into Deportivo’s keeper. Deportivo extended their lead to 4 – 1 and it wasn’t until the 25th minute until West End found the net again with another header. This time from Cam who finished Oscar’s initial attempt. Overall a rough start, but with some new faces on the team and some players missing out of the line-up with injuries, West End hopes for a better result when they host Inter Alianza 45 next week.
