West End United opened their 2019/2020 season with a home game against Luxur FC 45. With a lot of new faces on the roster and having not played together yet it was a real “trial by fire” for the team as they took the field.  It ended up being a very good contest as both teams created a lot of scoring opportunities, but it was Janusz’s first goal of the season collecting a juicy rebound and buring it past the keeper into the left side of the net that put West End on the board first.  Unfortunately, Luxur seemed to get a bit of a jump in their stride after conceding and scored 3 unanswered goals of their own to take a 3 -1 lead.  West End kept their composure, kept creating opportunities and were able to get within one curtesy of Alberto’s great finish converting Janusz’s sweet pass for his first goal of the season.  Luxur answered with one more goal regaining their two-goal lead just before the half time break.  Second half brought more of the same end-to-end action as the two teams kept pushing for more goals.  Applying a lot of pressure, Tom was able to force Luxur’s defense to make a bad clearance pass which Janusz took full advantage of taking the ball into the corner and sending a great perpendicular pass into the penalty box for an easy tap-in and Tom’s first of the night.  With 6 minutes left in the game and the score at 4 – 3 in Luxur’s favor West End’s two unfortunate defensive mistakes cost them 2 goals and the game with a final score of 6 – 3.  A very good team effort with Wes keeping the team in the game making some great saves including a couple one-on-one with last year’s top scorer, Zoran.
