West End United started the new year with a convincing win over second-seated Polonia on their home turf. Bartek got West End on the board early in the game for his fifth goal of the season, however Zoran made his mark on the game shortly after with a very good goal to tie the game at one each. Midway through the half Justin was taken down by Polonia’s keeper on a one-on-one situation and Waseem made them pay with a perfectly executed penalty shot. West End added one more to their total before the end of the half after Nathan’s great individual effort to keep the ball in play to setup Bartek for his second of the night. West End dominated the second half with control of the midfield, an area they’ve struggled in the past, intercepting passes and playing a very good passing and ball possession game. They were rewarded with two more goals curtesy of Alberto’s and Oscar’s perfectly placed passes to Tomasz who beat their keeper with well-placed shots one in each corner of the net. The goals might have come from only three players, but this was a total team effort as everyone played a very good, solid game. Polonia’s top scorer, Zoran, was practically taken out of the game after his first goal by West End’s well-organized defense. Mark “stood on his head” in few situations to keep Polonia to only one goal and stoping any potential momentum gain. Overall, one of West End’s best performances this season…
